While I was browsing through a HUGE stack of my brothers old magazines I came across this old SKY MAGAZINE clipping of Elastica from a magazine probably 1990 - 91:
Every once in a while a band comes along whose early gigs have more music-industry types packed into the venue than they do fans; talent scouts and dodgy music-paper writers desperate to be in on the birth of the Next Big Thing. Such combos are few and far between - Suede weren't one as all their early gigs were completely naff - and they're the first to admit it. Blur weren't one either, since Food Records snapped them up before anyone else had even heard of them. Groovy post-punk outfit Elastica, however, are definately one of those pands and, just to add to the buzz surrounding them, thier fromtwoman Justine Frischman (tsch! can't get the staff! - CH) is girlfriend of cute Blur frontman Damon Albarn, ex-girlfriend of Brett Anderson and former rhythm guitarist with a then unknown Suede.

So does she have any regrets about leaving the band which this year have become this year's media darlings? "No way," Frischman (aarg!) smiles. "In fact, if anything, I'm a lot less embarrassed by the whole Blur connection than the Suede one. Anyway, it got kind of irritating being second guitarist and playing second fiddle to everyine else in the band. Besides which, I never thought they'd get that big - I'm quite annoyed they've done so well," she laughs, although there is little sign of sour grapes. Snapped up by new indie label Deceptive earlier this year, Elastica will release thier first single, Cos, Cos later this month and Frischman (tut) can barely contain her excitement. "It's all I've wanted to do," says the architecture student-turned-guitar-babe. "Besides which, we're much better than any other new band" And modest with it. LF - SKY
